Time: 7.30am - 9am including breakfast

Venue: Novotel Darwin CBD, 100 The Esplanade, Darwin City

All are welcome for this free in-person event.

The breakfast will be chaired by Em Prof Helen Garnett AC, chairman of The Crawford Fund in the NT and member of the board.

Helen was foundation Vice Chancellor and President of Charles Darwin University. Helen will also present key findings of two recent “Doing Well by Doing Good” reports by the Crawford Fund, highlighting the real and lasting benefits of agricultural research for development, currently funded by around 2.5% of the aid budget.

Our panel will include:

  • Prof Andrew Campbell, CEO, Australian Centre International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and former Director of RIEL at Charles Darwin University, who will address “Food Security: Challenges, Opportunities and Achievements.”
  • Fiona Simson, Chair of the Commission for International Agricultural Research and President of the National Farmers Federation, who will explain benefits to farmers from agricultural research funded through the development assistance budget.
  • Dr Samantha Nowland, Senior Research Scientist, Darwin Aquaculture Centre at Northern Territory Government who has benefited from a Crawford Fund scholarship, award and training grants. Her talk will focus on her NextGen personal journey and in-country impact from research for development.

The panel will be followed by open Q&A session.
