International Student Study in Darwin at CDU

Pursue My Passion in Darwin

I'm Shehani and I moved to Darwin from Sri Lanka to pursue my Masters in Engineering.  The biggest challenge for me personally was to live away from my family, as the only child growing up I was someone who never spent a day without my family. Another being to learn to prioritise the tasks and meeting deadlines while balancing part time work and devoting time to my spouse has been a learning curve.

International Student Achieves Success at Darwin University

Studying at CDU was by far the best decision I made, it has helped my growth immensely by the opportunities that were presented to me during this two-year journey. One such scenario is the annual job fair which is held at the campus to help international students to network with potential employers. This is where I landed my internship to work as a Mechanical Services Engineer Intern at leading Engineering Consultation Firm in Australia, thus helping me to secure a part time job with the employer upon the completion of the three-month internship.

As a young female engineer, I believe that women empowerment can support the professional development and engineering leadership roles in many ways. Therefore, I’m looking forward to help network, promote wellbeing and empower young women in engineering once I graduate from CDU.
