Tropical Living in Darwin is Fine

Pleasant Surprise

I moved from Canberra to Darwin in June 2021 with my partner when she was posted up here for work. Before this,Adam at Waterfront Darwin hadn’t really been on my radar as a place to live, so I arrived with not too much of an idea what to expect. As we arrived in the dry season, Darwin was loaded with things to do and we were really spoilt with choice for how to spend our time. We bought camping gear and headed out to Kakadu for a week, doing a river cruise and plenty of walks. I also loved that we were a day trip away from all the Litchfield swimming holes.

The first month or so was like an extended holiday in some ways as the way of life/things you can do up here are so different from activities in Canberra. I loved using the outdoor cinema, even catching a movie being shown there which was in Gaelic which was a bit surreal as someone who is from Scotland…

After a month or so of being a tourist and exploring the city I started working for the City of Darwin Council in their Customer Service team. Its given me the chance to meet a lot of very interesting people and get a better understanding of Darwin as a city.

I usually spend my days off going for a walk up the Esplanade or East Point then hitting up one of the many pubs for a Parmi. Both my partner and I love the laid back, uncomplicated way of life that exists up here so I will hopefully be here for many years to come!
