Friendly Visit

“I came to Darwin for two weeks to visit friends .. I never left”

When Lyn completed university she travelled abroad and spent some time working in South East Asia. She’d been away for a while and her job had finished so she decided to head home to see the family in Tasmania. She had friends in Darwin and it is so close to SE Asia that it made sense to make Darwin her first port of call on the way home. Lyn Loone

When I arrived in Darwin my friends were very generous and showed me around town and we had a great time. I'd never been to Darwin before but the Asian influence made it feel familiar and very comfortable. I fell in love with the multicultural, laid back, welcoming feel and wanted to stay longer. I looked around for a job and found work easy to find. I got a good job with great career prospects. It wasn't long before I met a beautiful man and fell in love. We started a family and despite not have any family support we found Darwin is a great place to bring up the kids.  The Darwin lifestyle is really great, it's relaxed and easy going, the food and music scene is great, the people are wonderful and you only need one wardrobe. I think everybody is happy here because the weather is good, there's no traffic jams and everyone has time to spend on things they like doing instead of commuting or hibernating inside.

I never did make it back to Tasmania.
