World Table Tennis Championships

Last month Darwin played host to the World Table Tennis Youth Qualifier Championships. This event, conducted in the wake of the pandemic, has been the only dedicated world table tennis event in Australia in the last 3 years.

Eighty three competitors battled it out over 3 days at the Marrara Indoor Stadium. Young Australians from all corners of the country travelled to Darwin to compete in the event. International competitors and their families travelled from USA, Sri Lanka, China, Singapore and India.

The level of competition was world-class with several highly ranked contestants taking part in the event including Hansini Mathan from India ranked World No.1 under 13-years girls.

Competition included grades from under 11s through to under 19s with strong performances across all grades. Results can be viewed here.

Officials are ecstatic with the quality of the event and competition. Plans are already underway to conduct the event in Darwin again in 2023.
