Veterinarian

Singapore Vet

I moved to Darwin 3 years ago from Singapore to join my wife, who's a Darwin local. I trained as a veterinarian in Melbourne and worked in the Singapore public service for several years. Initially we were a bit unsure of the job opportunities here in Darwin but shortly after I arrived, I found a great team to work with at Menzies School of Health Research. Shawn Ting

Our team is working on projects to strengthen vet and human public health in Timor-Leste. Prior to the pandemic we travelled regularly for work and for holidays. Darwin is closer to Asia than Sydney or Melbourne - back then we were always on a plane back to Singapore, to other parts of Asia, or beyond!

Having come from a big city, I find the short commutes in Darwin a great time saver. People are laid back and we've settled into a friendly Chinese Christian church community. There's also lots of free activities for children - our young family particularly love story time at the public libraries!
