DARWIN: OUTDOOR EXERCISE IN EVERY SUBURB
If you live in Darwin, you’ll want to live outdoors - no matter the season it’s always a beautiful day to be outside! Here’s a few places you can go for a free outdoor workout!
Nightcliff Outdoor Exercise Stations
You’ll find 27 pieces of equipment spread across six stations along Casuarina Drive, between Sunset Park and the Rapid Creek footbridge. There are a range of exercises available to cater to everyone, and free tutorials to ensure you are getting the maximum effect!
The City of Darwin have some handy guides for each station here.
East Point Spartan Outdoor Gym
Darwin’s newest gym with a view at East Point offers a range of body-weight focused exercises including ladders, chin up bars, dip benches, abs benches and boxing bag holders – and also has a section of training components for wheelchair users.
You’ll find it just after the first parking bay on the left, along Alec Fong Drive on East Point.
Mountain Biking – Charles Darwin National Park
Charles Darwin National Park is a mountain biker’s playground, with a network of single track and flow trails, with varying levels of difficulty. There is also a pump track just behind one of the World War 2 storage shelters. See a downloadable track map here
It’s within riding distance of the city, or a short drive out Tiger Brennan Drive.
A hit of tennis
There are free, daytime use courts located at Parap (77 Ross Smith Avenue, next to Parap Pool), Nightcliff (Corner of Aralia St and Jacaranda Avenue), and Rapid Creek (Corner of Chrisp St and Valder Crescent) – which gives you plenty of opportunities to exercise outdoors and perfect your serves!
Swim in the Recreational Lagoon
So we don’t swim in the ocean in Darwin – but this is a controlled lagoon!! You can swim laps around the saltwater recreation lagoon which is the centrepoint of the Darwin Waterfront.
It’s free and patrolled by lifeguards 9am – 6pm daily.
